The Charcuterie / Custom Cheese Board Story

Recently we had the opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind custom cheese board for return clients. In 2016 we completed a coffee table (Project# R16W07CM) for them. They came back requesting that we make them a custom cheese board for use when entertaining friends. The only instruction they gave was ‘make it different’.

Of course, this presents a challenge because our concept of ‘different’ is probably, wait for it, different than others. But, we relish these opportunities to be unique and make use of our creative sides! We went to work and came up with 3 options for them to choose from.

Definition

Just so we are 100% clear, these are presentation boards and not designed to be used as cutting boards.

The client’s saw them and it was a pause, then silence as they looked them over… Then, success! One of the client’s said “this isn’t anything like I expected at all”. It was nice to see such a small project have such a big impact. In the end, they loved them all and couldn’t decide between them, so they purchased 2 of the 3 boards leaving us with an orphan.

At the foundation of every cheese board presentation is the board itself! We get a kick out of using something unique and completely different?

Board On Display

What attracts us to this piece is the grain patterns. The flare & curl, the quilting affect that it displays as well as some burl. Adding to it’s beauty is the live edge and the interesting shapes that mother nature designed.

As we expressed earlier, this board is not designed to be used as a cutting board. We have finished it for use as a presentation board only.

Warning!

While at La Jolie we purchased some cheese! One of our selections was Black Cow Cheddar. It is absolutely delicious but we have to warn you, it somehow morphs into a spider! It’s awesome!
