STAND UP DESK – WALNUT & METAL – NEWMARKET

Background:

We approached this client to introduce Aether Creations and initiate a working relationship between our companies.

They approached us with their first project. Their client wants a stand-up desk designed & made for home office use and had a picture for inspiration that we took and modified based on budget requirement. We presented the basic desk design with options to be built in like a wired power source with USB charging capability. We are pleased to have earned the project and work is underway. This one is going to be exciting to see come together.

Inspiration

The client had done their homework and came prepared with a photo of a desk they found inspiring and wanted as a finished product. We worked with the ‘look’ they were after and modified to include some build options.

Our Materials

Top: 1” thick (52” long x 26” wide) made using walnut. This one will be laminated | glued up.

Legs: made from 1-1/4” metal tube, cut and welded

Our Process

1. Walnut Top

a. choose rough lumber for glue up to achieve desired dimensions
b. mill lumber square and layout top for glue up
c. Once dry, relieve the edges, prepare any knots, sand, sand, sand, apply finish!

2. Metal Legs

a. Complete full size layout on 24 gauge sheet metal to be used as template ensuring all components match and assemble perfectly reflecting the clean, refined design requirements.
b. Cut metal components to length, fit and weld into place.
c. Finish all weld joints and prepare for finish application.

3. Finish Assembly

a. Hide wires for receptacle and USB charging station in leg
b. Attach top to leg structure
c. Install adjustable feet and deliver to client!
