OUTDOOR WOOD BURNING PIZZA OVEN & KITCHEN – NEWMARKET

Background

This client added a wood burning pizza oven to their backyard for use all year round. We built them a rudimentary stand to get them started and they came back with a list of wants & needs.

Wants/Needs:

  1. An L shaped design
  2. Space for an enclosed mini fridge, 2 storage shelves, pizza oven, pullout tray and covered wood storage
  3. The pizza oven is to be located on the short return at specific height, the pullout tray to be located directly below it with a wood storage compartment under that
  4. The fridge section to be covered with a door to keep the weather out
  5. Strong enough to support the oven as well as granite top 6. Adjustable feet for leveling purposes

Inspiration

The ability to use our wood burning pizza oven for more than just pizza.  The piece must be multi functional, house a fridge, shelf space, wood, pullout shelf and the oven all while providing a prep work surface for cooking.

Our Materials

Top – made using three pieces of granite, polished edges and joints (sourced).

Frame – made using 1.5” x 1.5” L channel.

Feet – adjustable feet made from 5/16” bolts with washers welded on the bottoms.

Cover Panels & Doors – made from 20 gauge stainless steel sheet metal

Our Process

  • 1. We are using ‘L’ channel on this project as it provides a strong base for both the granite top as well as the actual pizza oven itself, which when lit can reach temperatures of 900°F making safety a concern.
  • 2. The joints where the metal comes together are notched and welded for extra strength and a clean look form the outside. The welds, although we think look beautiful, are concealed on the interior of the unit and not visible.
  • 3. We designed it in two pieces making it easier to manage in the shop, during transport to and from the powder coaters and installation on site at the clients. The two units bolt together making the entire piece a strong single unit.
  • 4. Once back in our shop, from getting powder coated, we cut and attached the stainless steel panels that surround the unit. The clients’ wanted it clad in stone but after seeing a mock-up decided to go S/S, we think it’s awesome. We left a reveal of the black frame around the S/S panels framing them creating a stunning visual.
  • 5. Install almost complete. This entailed positioning, leveling and bolting the two frames together. We scheduled the granite to arrive a day later and installed it on the prep area frame as well as on the pizza oven frame.
  • 6. The granite is so beautiful, sourced from our partner Diamond Perfected Stone.
  • 7. Project complete and client’s planning their next party using the new Outdoor Kitchen & Wood Burning Pizza Oven!
