Project Brief
Through word of mouth, this client heard about us and reached out during their kitchen renovation. They planned a kitchen bar to eat at but with some specific criteria in mind.
Given the size of the kitchen they had specific dimensions and criteria in which to work;
1. The slab had to fit under a ‘garage’ cabinet and between the stone countertop on one side and a full height cabinet on the other. The walnut bar had to act as the bottom of the ‘garage’ cabinet
2. They wanted the walnut to be cantilevered out from the wall under the cabinet as they didn’t want a leg at the end where they sit to eat. They wanted it open for stools.
Given the criteria the metal support structure had to be designed with the ability to hold the walnut slab safely but not impede on their ability to store stools and use the bar to eat. This also dictated the need for the metal frame to be lagged to the wall structure for support. We were forced to build in some wall structure in order to make it strong enough to support the bar and not sag or bounce in use.
In the end we designed a metal tube support structure that not only displays the walnut bar top but looks beautiful by itself. The clients allowed us to leave the frame raw, clear coated, showing off the welds and grinder marks, it is spectacular and suites the space perfectly.
We were able to tick all the criteria boxes, design & install a beautiful piece that matches their décor and appears to have always been there.
What Marg Had to Say…
“I wasn’t sure about leaving the metal raw, but it looks absolutely beautiful. It matched our space and helps complete the kitchen renovation. We love our walnut kitchen bar and how it functions”.
